biNgbang – Percussion ensemble of the Zagreb Music Academy

Short bio:
biNgbang – Percussion ensemble of the Zagreb Music Academy has a short but rich history. Under the artistic direction of Igor Lešnik ensemble was founded in 1999 as an ensemble of the Jeunesses Musicales Croatia. After five years of intense international activity they became independent in 2004.
biNgbang ensemble is laureate of many International and Croatian Music awards. In 2009 they won summa cum laude First prize of International competition in Belgium and in 2004 Percussive Arts Society International Convention in Nashville USA declared them the best student percussion ensemble in the world. Among Croatian prizes it is worth mentioning they received the prize “Ivo Vuljević” as the best young ensemble in Croatia and twice the Rector’s Award of the Zagreb University.
As an international ensemble consisting of best percussion students of the Zagreb Music Academy, biNgbang has performed worldwide: from Europe and Asia over to Americas. biNgbang also hosted many great international soloists like: Andy Narell, Dave Samuels, Art Lipner, Ney Rosauro, Jean Geoffroy John Beck, Angel Frette, Daniella Ganeva, Ludwig Albert…
Their compact disc entitled “biNgbang plays lesnik” published by the American company Equilibrium achieved considerable international success.

biNgbang – udaraljkaški ansambl zagrebačke Muzičke akademije ima kratku, ali bogatu povijest. Pod umjetničkim vodstvom Igora Lešnika ansambl je osnovan 1999. godine kao ansambl Hrvatske glazbene mladeži. Nakon pet godina intenzivnog međunarodnog djelovanja postali su neovisni 2004. godine.
biNgbang Ansambl je laureat mnogih međunarodnih i hrvatskih glazbenih nagrada. U 2009. su osvojili summa cum laude prvu nagradu Međunarodnog natjecanja u Belgiji, a 2004. godine ih je prestižni Arts Society International Convention u Nashvilleu USA proglasio najboljim studentskim ansamblom u svijetu. Među hrvatskim nagradama valja spomenuti nagradu “Ivo Vuljević” za najbolji mladi ansambl u Hrvatskoj te dvije Rektorove nagrade Sveučilišta u Zagrebu.
Ansambl se sastoji od najboljih studenata udaraljki zagrebačke Muzičke akademije. Krešimir Starčević

KREŠIMIR STARČEVIĆ (Zagreb, 1988.) started his music education at Franjo Lučić Art School in Velika Gorica in the class of Andeja Markulin. After that, he enrolles Academy of Music in Zagreb in the class of Đorđe Stanetti, where he graduated in 2013. He has spent the academic year 2012/2013 in the University of Applied Arts in Vienna as a part of the student exchange program Erasmus, in the class of Stefan Vladar. He has got many prizes in domestic and international piano competitions. The most significant of those are second prize at the Zlatko Grgošević Competition, first and second prizes at the Competition of music students, the award of the City of Samobor at the Ferdo Livadić Competition, two third prizes at the competitions of Dino Škrapić Foundation and Dean’s Award. Since 2009 till 2014 he has participated in the organization of Cycle of Concerts Virtuoso, led by students of the University of Zagreb Music Academy. Since 2012 he is an on-going associate of Croatian Radio’s Educational Program. In the year of 2014 he has become the Artistic Director of Zagreb Summer Evenings Festival. He works with successful Croatian musicians like saxophonist Lovro Merčep, guitarist Srđan Bulat, violinists Marin Maras and Marco Graziani, cellists Latica Anić and Smiljan Mrčela, clarinetist Mihael Paar, percussionist Filip Merčep and trumpetist Vedran Kocelj. He has had a solo performance with the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra lead by maestro Saša Britvić, Croatian Radiotelevision’s Symphony Orchestra lead by maestro Pavle Dešpalj and Zagreb Music Academy’s Symphony Orchestra lead by maestro Mladen Tarbuk.
KREŠIMIR STARČEVIĆ (Zagreb, 1988.) nakon završene Umjetničke škole Franje Lučića u Velikoj Gorici u razredu Andreje Markulin, upisuje Muzičku akademiju u Zagrebu u razredu Đorđa Stanettija, gdje je diplomirao 2013. godine. Dobitnik je niza nagrada na domaćim i međunarodnim natjecanjim, od kojih se ističu druga na Natjecanju Zlatko Grgošević, prve i druge na Natjecanjima učenika i studenata glazbe, Nagrada grada Samobora na natjecanju Ferdo Livadić, dvije treće nagrade na Natjecanjima Zaklade Dino Škrapić te Dekanova nagrada. Od 2009. do 2014. godine sudjelovao je u organizaciji i vođenju ciklusa koncerata studenata Muzičke akademije u Zagrebu Virtuoso, a od 2012. stalni je suradnik Obrazovnog programa Hrvatskog radija. Od 2014. godine umjetnički je voditelj Zagrebačkih ljetnih večeri. ALEJANDRO RUIZ
Short bio:
He is a percussionist, graduated from the University EAFIT of Medellín (Colombia), and a student of several marimba master classes in the United States, Europe and Japan.
He has played percussion instruments in various orchestras, bands and chamber ensembles in his native country, Colombia, and has participated in national and international festivals of music with an emphasis on marimba and percussion.
In 2011 he obtained second place at Keiko Abe Latinoamerican marimba contest.
Alejandro Ruiz has performed marimba recitals solo and with orchestra in various theaters in Colombia and UK, Japan, Puerto Rico USA, Argentina, Mexico, etc). Also his recitals has been broadcasted on radio and television. He also has been involved in musical productions, both in his own town and the rest of Colombia.
He has taught percussion at the two most important institutions in Medellín as the music is concerned: Universidad de Antioquia and Universidad
EAFIT.
He is currently a member of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Medellín, He advises students of percussion in Academia Filarmónica de Medellín Orchestra and also is doing his monographie work of the Master of Music at the University EAFIT. In his Master of Music he intends to specialize in marimba and raise the instrument to the category of other traditional instruments. He hopes to become known by composers and performers and to encourage them to hold recitals of Marimba music,and make recordings both in Colombian and Latin America.
The percussionist Alejandro Ruiz, aims to put a grain of sand in the vast musical landscape that offers the marimba, bearing in mind the legacy He has of the ancestral “piano Choco jungle” chonta marimba.

On je perkusionist rođen u Medellinu, Kolumbija (1978.), diplomirao na Sveučilištu EAFIT, također u Medellínu, a sudjelovao je na nekoliko majstorskih tečajeva marimbe u SAD-u, Europi i Japanu.
Svirao je udaraljke u orkestrima, sastavima i komornim ansamblima u svojoj rodnoj zemlji, Kolumbiji, te je sudjelovao na domaćim i međunarodnim festivalima glazbe s naglaskom na marimbu i udaraljke.
2011. osvojio je drugo mjesto na Keiko Abe latinoameričkom natjecanju marimbista.
Alejandro Ruiz je svirao marimba recitale solo i uz orkestar u raznim kazalištima u Kolumbiji i Velikoj Britaniji, Japanu, Puerto Ricu, SAD, Argentini, Meksiku, itd. Također su mu recitali emitirani na radiju i televiziji. Također je bio uključen u mnoge glazbene produkcije, kako u svom gradu i ostatku Kolumbije.
Učio je udaraljke na dvije najvažnije institucije u Medellinu kad je glazba u pitanju: Universidad de Antioquia i Universidad EAFIT.
Alejandro Ruiz trenutno je član filharmonije u Medellinu, savjetuje studente udaraljki u orkestru „Academia de Filarmonica Medellin“ i radi svoj studijski rad za magisterij na Sveučilištu EAFIT. U svom magisteriju glazbe namjerava specijalizirati marimbu i podići instrument u kategoriju ostalih tradicionalnih instrumenata. On se nada da će postati poznat među skladateljima i izvođačima, te ih potaknuti da rade recitale glazbe za marimbu, i želi snimati, kako u Kolumbiji tako i cijeloj Latinskoj Americi.
Udaraljkaš Alejandro Ruiz, ima za cilj staviti zrnce pijeska u ogromnom glazbenom pejzažu marimbe, imajući u vidu nasljeđe. On ima, naslijeđenu od predaka, “piano Choco jungle” chonta marimbu.
PEI-CHING WU
Short bio:
Taiwanese marimbist Pei-ching Wu, a founding member of the Ju Percussion Group, has served as principal of the Ju Percussion Group since she was 18 years and is surely considered as one of the leading Asian female marimbists.
Ms. Wu obtained her master’s degree in Percussion Performance from Northern Illinois University in 1994. With dissertation entitled Extended Multiple Mallet Performance in Keyboard Percussion which illustrates six-mallet techniques through two Taiwanese compositions, Wu earned her doctorate from West Virginia University in 2005. She studied percussion with Ju, Tzong-Ching, Keiko Abe, Robert Chappell, Richard Holly, Tim
Peterman and Paschal Younge.
Pei-ching Wu has appeared as a solo artist with the Amadinda Percussion Group in the Budapest Spring Festival. She also performed with Martha Argerich at the First Martha Argerich Music Festival in Taipei and was featured in Asian Women Marimbists Concert at the 5th Taiwan International Percussion Convention, Marimba 2010 International Festival and Conference, and many other festivals. She has performed with the Taipei Symphony Orchestra and Taiwan Symphony Orchestra at Taipei National Concert Hall. Ms. Wu was nominated for the 8th Taishin Arts Award with The Glamorous Match, a duet of percussion and piano. In 2012, Ms. Wu was nominated for the 10th Taishin Arts Award with her six mallets marimba recital “Wonderland”. As the host of “Pei-ching’s Percussion World” radio show at Bravo Radio FM91.3 & Classical Radio FM97.7, Pei-ching Wu was nominated for the Non-pop Music Show Host Award at the 49th Broadcast Golden Bell Awards.
Ms. Wu has performed as guest recitalist and clinician at universities, colleges, and conservatories in America, France, Belgium, Japan, Taiwan, and China. Ms. Wu has commissioned and premiered nearly thirty works for six mallets marimba by Emmanuel Sejourne, Pius Cheung, Chin Cheng Lin, Wan-Jen Huang, Chiung-Ying Chang, Ching-Wen Chao, Chien-Hui Hung, Yu-hui Chang, Koji Sakurai, Ching-Mei Lin, Weitzu Liu, Huan-Wei Lu, Ying Lee, and many others. Ms. Wu has served as a judge for the Universal Marimba Competition Belgium, Jeju International Percussion Competition, China International Percussion Competition.
Ms. Wu is associate professor of music at the Taipei National University of the Arts, principal of the Ju Percussion Group, Innovative Percussion Artist and teaches at National Taipei University of Education and Shih Chien University.

Izvanredni je profesor na Taipei National University of the Arts, solistica „Ju Percussion Group“, umjetnički predstavnik tvrtke „Innovative Percussion“ i profesorica na Sveučilištu Shih Chien.
Marta Klimasara & Sahar Trio

Marta Klimasara
The polish musician has been living in Germany since 1994. After winning the »2nd World Marimba Competition« in Japan in 1999 as well as the second prize in the »3rd Krzystof Penderecki International Competition of Contemporary Music« in Krakow Marta Klimasara was recommended the first prize in the percussions discipline of the» International ARD Music Contest« in Munich in the autumn 2001, which is a very rare and high-standing honour. Marta Klimasara was also decorated with the prize of the public for her winning charm and personality. She also held scholarships from the Yamaha Music Foundation of Europe and the Kunststiftung Baden-Württemberg and was commended by the European Cultural Foundation in Strasburg for her outstanding musical and artistic personality.
Today Marta Klimasara is a highly acknowledged percussionist, famed also outside the borders of her new home; her international renown rests not only on her tournées in France, Sweden, Japan, South Africa, Russia, South Corea and the USA but also on her many concerts with orchestras such as RSO Stuttgart, Munich Chamber Orchestra, Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra, National Philharmony Warsaw, Hofer Symphony Orchestra, National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Stuttgart Philharmonic Orchestra and the RSO Saarbrücken. She also produces radio and television recordings with the Bavarian and Hessian radio institutions, with the SWR, France Musique, Polskie Radio, SR 2 KulturRadio and Deutschlandradio.
Her solo debut recording »I Ching« was released in spring 2002 with triptychon followed by »Sahay Manush« in 2008 with farao classics, her first Duo recording with Jürgen Spitschka.
In 2004 she became professor at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Stuttgart.
The Sahar Trio plays together since 2010, all from different countries.
Se-Mi Hwang (27) from South-Korea, Emil Kuyumcuyan (21) from Turkey and Jessica Porter (23) from Germany. They all are students at the university for Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart.
They already won a 3rd prize at the IPCL, the International Percussion Competition Luxembourg 2012, and also play many concerts in Germany, but also in Frace, Slowenia, Switzerland and Turkey.

Poljska glazbenica koja živi u Njemačkoj od 1994. Nakon što je osvojila „2nd World Marimba Competition“ u Japanu 1999. godine te drugu nagradu na „3rd Krzystof Penderecki International Competition of Contemporary Music“ u Krakovu, Marta Klimasara je predložena za prvu nagradu u disciplini udaraljki na „International ARD Music Contest“ u Münchenu u jesen 2001., što je vrlo rijetka i velika čast. Marta Klimasara također je nagrađena od publike za svoj pobjednički šarm i osobnost. Stipendirana je od „Yamaha Music Foundation of Europe“ i „Kunststiftung Baden-Württemberg“ te je posebno pohvaljena od Europske kulturne zaklade u Strasbourgu za izvanrednu glazbenu i umjetničku osobnost.
Danas je vrlo priznata perkusionistica, poznata i izvan granica svoga novoga doma; svoj međunarodni renome postigla je ne samo na turnejama u Francuskoj, Švedskoj, Japanu, Južnoj Africi, Rusiji, Južnoj Koreji i SAD-u, nego i na mnogobrojnim koncertima s orkestrima poput „RSO Stuttgart“, Komornog orkestra u Münchenu, Komornog orkestra Stuttgart, Nacionalne filharmonije u Varšavi, Hofer simfonijskog orkestra, Nacionalnog poljskog radio simfonijskog orkestra, Filharmonije Stuttgart i RSO Saarbrücken. Short bio:
The group was formed in 1992 under the initiative of Professor Paco Diaz and the students of the Conservatory of Music in Santa Cruz de Tenerife (CSMC).
The group has made multiple presentations at national and international level. The percussion group has performed in the Auditorio de Tenerife, in the Auditorium of Adeje, Auditorio Juan Carlos I (Arafo) Ex-Convento de San Francisco (Garachico), Victoria Theatre, Guajara University La Laguna, Adeje and Convent Auditorium Antonio Lecuona (CSMC) among others.
In 2002, the group was invited by the School of Music in Monterrey (Mexico). Both in 2003 and 2004, the group traveled to Cuba to participate in the XIV and XV International Percussion Festival PERCUBA.
The group participated at the International Percussion Convention in their editions from 1995-2001 held in the cities of Valencia, Madrid, Seville, Mallorca. They also participated in the IV International Conference on Riba-roja de Turia and in 2005 they were invited by the International Percussion Patagonia (Argentina). That same year, the group was invited by the School of Music in San Sebastian. They has also done exchanges with the Municipal School of Music in Alcorcón (Madrid). In 2008 the group performed in different concert halls of the Community of Madrid and Segovia.

Sastav je formiran 1992. na inicijativu profesora Paco Diaza i studenata Konzervatorija glazbe u Santa Cruz de Tenerife (CSMC).
Nastupaju na nacionalnoj i internacionalnoj razini između ostalog u Auditorio de Tenerife, u Auditorium of Adeje, Auditorio Juan Carlos I (Arafo) Ex-Convento de San Francisco (Garachico), Victoria Theatre, Guajara University La Laguna i Adeje and Convent Auditorium Antonio Lecuona (CSMC).
2002. sastav je pozvan od strane Glazbene škole u Monterrey (Meksiko), a 2003. i 2004. nastupili su na internacionalnom festivalu udaraljkaša PERCUBA na Kubi.
Sudjelovali su na Internacionalnoj konvenciji udaraljkaša od 1995. – 2001. održanoj u Valenciji, Madridu, Sevilli i Malorci. Također su sudjelovali na IV. Internacionalnoj konferenciji u mjestu Riba-roja de Turia, a 2005. su pozvani na Internacionalni susret udaraljkaša u Patagoniji (Argentina). Iste godine pozvani su u Glazbenu školu u San Sebastianu, a sudjelovali su i u razmjeni s Glazbenom školom okruga Alcorcón (Madrid). 2008. godine nastupili su u koncertnim dvoranama Madrida i Segovije.
