Chin-Cheng Lin (Taiwan)
Short bio:
Taiwanese marimbist Chin Cheng Lin is recognized worldwide for possessing a talent of uncommon ability and as an exceptionally gifted artist, reflected in the numerous awards and effusive reviews he has received for both his live performances and recordings, as a result of Lin’s succession in marimba, he received a “ European Soloist Champion Award” in 2007, “Culture Outstanding Award” by the Taipei Representative Office in Belgium and Europe for promoting the Taiwanese arts and invited to perform for the Belgian Royal Family. Frequently praised for his musical and technical mastery, Mr. Lin is also lauded for his imaginative and illuminating interpretations of the marimba repertoire.
This year our regular and dear guest from Taiwan, Chin Cheng Lin will perform at the IPEW opening concert. His program is selected from the contents of his specialization at the Music Academy Zagreb in the class of professor Igor Lešnik.

Tajvanski marimbist Chin Cheng Lin svjetski je poznat po svom talentu i neobičnoj darovitosti. Dobitnik je brojnih nagrada, a kritike njegovih nastupa i snimki izuzetno su pozitivne. Dobitnik je “ European Soloist Champion Award” 2007., “Culture Outstanding Award” za promoviranje tajvanske kulture, te je nastupio pred belgijskom kraljevskom obitelji.
Ove godine naš redoviti i dragi gost iz Tajvana, Chin Cheng Lin nastupit će na Koncertu otvaranja. Njegov program izbor je iz sadržaja njegove specijalizacije na Muzičkoj akademiji u Zagrebu, u klasi prof. Igora Lešnika.

biNg bang has a relatively short but rich history. Under the artistic direction of Igor Lešnik ensemble is founded in 1999. in Zagreb, as a permanent ensemble of the Croatian Musical Youth. After only five years of intense activity and playing music, they became independent (2004).
biNg bang was declared the best student band in the world at the Percussive Arts Society competition in Nashville (USA). Of course, they got many awards in their country. The ensemble prize “Ivo Vuljević” as the best young ensemble in Croatia, and the Rector’s Award, University of Zagreb. biNg Bang performs as international band with best percussion students at the Zagreb Music Academy and laureates of various competitions. The ensemble has performed throughout the world, from European, Asian countries over the North and South America. biNg bang in these eight years hosted a great soloists and conductors: Ney Rosauro and Fernando Hashimoto (Brazil), Jean Geoffroy (France), John Beck, Payton MacDonald and Michael Udow (USA), Angel Frette (Argentina), Albert Ludwig (Belgium)…
Their compact disc entitled “biNg bang plays lesnik” published for the American company Equilibrium achieved international success. They are preparing another CD with a program consisting of works by Croatian and foreign authors dedicated to this band.
Members of the ensemble are: Boris Žuvela, Leonardo Losciale, Milan Filić, Ivan Ježek, Filip Merčep, Renato Palatinuš, Fran Krsto Šercar, David Topić, Davor Marinac, Gregor Hrovat, Nicolas Sinković, Pavao Golubić.

biNg bang ima relativno kratku, ali bogatu povijest. Pod umjetničkim vodstvom Igora Lešnika zagrebački ansambl osnovan je 1999. godine kao stalni ansambl Hrvatske glazbene mladeži. Nakon samo pet godina djelovanja i intenzivnog muziciranja, a zatim i osamostaljenja (2004.) biNg bang je proglašen najboljim studentskim sastavom na svijetu na natjecanju Percussive Arts Society u Nashvilleu (USA). Dakako, priznanja nisu izostala u matičnoj zemlji, pa je tako ansambl dobitnik nagrade Ivo Vuljević kao najbolji mladi ansambl u Hrvatskoj, te Rektorove nagrade Sveučilišta u Zagrebu.
biNg Bang muzicira i u međunarodnoj postavi koju čine najbolji studenti udaraljki zagrebačke Muzičke akademije i laureati s različitih natjecanja. Lucid duo is the first prize winning laureate of the prestigious Universal Marimba Competition 2011 Belgium, praised for their amazing degree of sensitivity to sound.
In 2012 Lucid duo became one of the three finalists of the Contemporary chamber music competition De Linkprijs in Tilburg, Holland.
This marimba duo was formed by Irena Manolova (Bulgaria) and Tomasz Goliński (Poland) in 2009 as a chamber-music project guided by their teacher Ludwig Albert at the Royal Conservatory Antwerp.

Seoul National University Percussion Ensemble

Seoul National University Percussion Ensemble is organization in 2001 and the member is seoul national university students and graduate students.
Every year through seoul national university professor Kyung-hwan, Choi’s enthusiastically teaching, they handled various repertory, from classic to contemporary music.
They have an invitation concert at Yeongdeungpo art hall, KT hall etc. They interact with Tokyo college of arts and doing active work as global percussion group.

Seoul National University Percussion Ensemble nastao je 2001., a članovi su mu studenti Univerziteta.
Svake godine od tada, pod entuzijastičnim vodsttvom profesora Kyung-hwan Choia, oni izvode raznovrstan repertoar, od klasike do moderne glazbe.
Nastupali su na mnogobrojnim koncertima, u Yeongdeungpo art hall, KT hall, itd. Surađuju s tokisjkom umjetničkom školom i aktivno rade kao svjetska perkusionistička grupa.
Alexandru Anastasiu (Romania)
Short bio:
Music means nothing without the rhythm and this is something that Alexandru Anastasiu has learned ever since he was a child.
Later on, Alexandru developped a special passion for the vibraphone which led him to dedicate more time studying this percussion instrument. In 1999 he reached the semifinale in the International Vibraphone Competition from Clermont-Ferrand.
Two years later he won the Yamaha Scholarship for percussion.
Alexandru Anastasiu has graduated the National Music University from Bucharest where later on he obtained the Master in musical performance. His achievements place him as the best in his generation.

Short bio:
Shiniti Ueno graduated from Kunitachi College of Music. He continued his studies at the Strasbourg National Conservatory in France. He was a percussionist in the Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg from 1976 to 1978 and was principal percussionist and timpanist of the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse from 1978 to 1984. He was awarded first prize at the “Concours Interregional des Conservatoires Nationaux de Region de France” in 1978, a special award at the “Concours International pour Interpretation de la Musique Contemporaine pour Percussion” in Paris in 1980, and third prize at the “Concours International d’Execution Musicale Maria Canals, Discipline Percussion Solo” in Barcelona in 1982. Ueno is active as a soloist. Currently living in Tokyo, Ueno is on the faculty of Kunitachi College of Music. He is a YAMAHA percussion player.
Matsumi Ogihara graduated from Kunitachi College of Music. He is a member of percussion group Phonix Reflexion and principal timpanist of Siena Wind Orchestra.
Noriko Kijiya graduated from Kunitachi College of Music. She has been awarded with prizes at domestic and international competitions such as the 2nd International Marimba Competition. She is a member of percussion group Phonix Reflexion and a female trio Minimums.
Sumire Ito graduated from Kunitachi College of Music and from the advanced soloist course of Kunitachi College of Music. She performed as a soloist at 2010 “the World of Keiko Abe” concert and has been awarded with numerous prizes. She is a member of percussion group Phonix Reflexion.
Itaru Akuhara graduated from Kunitachi College of Music and is now in the Advanced Soloist Course of Kunitachi College of Music. He has been awarded with many prizes, which include Grand Prix of Kobe International Music Competition of 2011 and JILA Percussion Competition of 2012. He is a member of percussion group Phonix Reflexion.
Masayuki Nino graduated from Kunitachi College of Music and now is in the Adcanced Soloist Course of Kunitachi College of Music. He won the first prize at the 7th Italian International Percussion Competition for Snare Drum and the 2nd prize at Jeju International Percussion Competition in 2012. He is a member of percussion group Phonix Reflexion.
Nina Fujisawa is a sophomore student at Kunitachi College of Music. She has been awarded many prizes such as the 2nd prize at the 17th JILA marimba Competition.
Shun Oba is a senior at Kunitachi College of Music majoring in both percussion and Jazz. He is a drummer of the Kunitachi College of Music New Tide Jazz Orchestra.

Filip Merčep
Short bio:
Filip Merčep (born 1991.), is a third year student of percussions at the Music Academy Zagreb, in the class of prof. Igor Lešnik.
From its beginnings, as a percussionist he has won awards in numerous national and international competitions. He was a finalist in the Eurovision Young Musicians 2012 in Vienna, Austria.
He was the youngest winner of the music award “Porin” for the best performance of classical music 2011. He has performed at major festivals in Croatia with leading orchestras and chamber ensembles.

Filip Merćep (rođen je 1991.), student je treće godine udaraljki na Muzičkoj akademiji u Zagrebu, u klasi prof. Igora Lešnika.
Od prvih udaraljkaških nastupa osvajao je brojne domaće i strane nagrade. Bio je finalist Eurovision Young Musicians 2012 in Vienna, Austria.
Bio je najmlađi dobitnik nagrade “Porin” za najbolju izvedbu klasične glazbe 2011. Nastupa na svim važnim festivalima u Hrvatskoj s vodećim orkestrima i komornim ansamblima.
The University of North Texas Percussion Ensemble
Short bio:
The Percussion Ensemble at the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas is a diverse and innovative ensemble that has set high standards in percussion education and performance for decades.
Part of the largest school of music in the United States, this select percussion ensemble has performed at past Percussive Arts Society International Conventions and toured Belgium in 2011.
The Ensemble has also performed at the Perkumania Festival hosted by the National Conservatory of Paris, France.
The ensemble regularly commissions new music and recently released a new CD, Vespertine Formations. The director of the ensemble, Mark Ford, is the coordinator of percussion activities at UNT.

The Percussion Ensemble at the University of North Texas in Denton je inovativan ansambl, drugačiji od drugih i postavlja standarde edukacije udaraljkaša za buduća desetljeća.
Kao dio najveće glazbene škole u USA nasupili su na Percussive Arts Society International Conventions and toured Belgium 2011.
Ansambl je također nastupio na Perkumania festivalu u organizaciji National Conservatory of Paris, Francuska.

Katrine Druyts obtained first prizes for “singing” and “chamber music”, the Higher Diploma & Master for “Singing” at the Royal Flemish Conservatoire in Antwerp, in the class of Lucienne Van Deyck. She won the song interpretation contest Renaat Verbruggen, the Ernest Van Dijck award and the special nomination for the Signaal prijs 1995. She attended several international master classes with Greta De Reyghere , Noelle Barker, David Mason, Jeremy Jackman, Ulrich Rademacher and Geoffrey Parsons. Since 1994 Katrine Druyts teaches singing at the Artesis Hogeschool – Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp and since 2003 at the Heilig Graf music secondary school in Turnhout. She sang abroad in numerous concert productions, festivals, various baroque ensembles, chamber opera’s, chamber music ensembles and songcycles. Katrine sung in professional choirs and ensembles conducted by Florian Heyerick, Erik Van Nevel, René Jacobs, Paul Dombrecht and collaborated with several CD productions for labels like Harmonia, Eufoda, Digi Classics. As a soloist she sung in oratoria and cantates from the Barroque period to the 20th century and with Capilla Flamenca in several chamber operas and music theatre productions. She founded several chamber music ensembles, made international appreciated musical productions and performed abroad at numerous international festivals. She created many chamber music compositions of several significant composers. With marimba virtuoso Ludwig Albert she went on concert tours abroad and recorded several CDs internationally received by praising critics.

Ludwig Albert

Ludwig Albert belongs as Belgian leading marimba virtuoso and pioneer with the absolute top flight and is worldwide acclaimed as one of the rare lyrical performers and most successful marimbists and pedagogues of his generation. After his Master’s studies at the Royal Conservatoire in Antwerp he completed his skill at the renown Toho Gakuan Music School in Tokyo with the world-famous marimba virtuoso Keiko Abe. Since 1995 he has been given worldwide master classes and concerts, produced 9 award-winning label albums and gave concerts with celebrated colleagues, ensembles and orchestras. He is founder and artistic director of the prestigious “Universal Marimba Competition & Festival” and to several international marimba academies such as the ‘International Ludwig Albert marimba academy’. He established other prestigious events such as the international marimba festival Siberia-Russia and the international percussion contest in Jeju-Korea. He is the head of the marimba department at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp which is the first institute in Europe offering a marimba Master degree. He’s also titular professor at the Leuven University College of Arts and guest professor at the National University of Arts Chiapas and at several international academies. He is endorsing artist of the Dutch firm Adams Instruments.

Ludwig Albert pripada vodećim belgiskim maribma virtuozima. Svjetski je priznat kao rijedak lirski izvođač i naujspješniji marimbist i pedagog svoje generacije. Nakon studija na Royal Conservatoire in Antwerp nastavlja razvijati svoje vještine na Toho Gakuan Music School sa svjetski najpoznatijim marimbistom – Keiko Abe. Od 1995. držao je svjetske seminare, izdavao nagrađivane albume i koncertirao s poznatim kolegama, ansamblima i orkestrima. Osnivač je i umjetnički direktor prestižnog “Universal Marimba Competition & Festival” i drugih svjetskih marimbističkih akademija kao što je ‘International Ludwig Albert marimba academy’. Pokrenuo je neka druga glazbena događanja poput “International Marimba Festival Siberia-Russia” i internacionalno natjecanje udaraljkaša Jeju-Korea. Ludwig vodi marimbistički odjel na Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp gdje je prvi puta u Europi omogućen magisterij za marimbu.
